School age children need many opportunites to exhibit their growing independence and responsibility. RCC supports the children and their families in fostering this development.

The staff-child ratio is 1:12 for kindergarten and 1:15 for schoolage. Children have opportunites to work with staff on a one-to-one basis, in small groups, and in large groups. Resource staff work with the after-school children on a regular basis in a variety of creative activities. Special activities that are scheduled weekly include cooking projects, sports, sewing, arts, crafts, and block building which are formed in response to children's interests. On full days when the children are not in school, field trips are planned. The weekly schedule of activity plans is posted on the bulletin board and is sent home.
